Who

The brooding, square-jawed Schreiber is known for his roles on both stage and screen, as well as for being Naomi Watts' babydaddy.

Backstory

Raised on the Lower East Side by his hippie mom, Schreiber briefly attended grade school at a Connecticut ashram called Yogaville. After graduating from the Yale School of Drama, he had minor roles in a pile of indie movies, including 1995's Party Girl and 1996's Daytrippers, both of which co-starred Parker Posey. His role in the 1996 horror flick Scream brought him a taste of mainstream success, and he's since gotten better billing in movies like Kate & Leopold and 2004's The Manchurian Candidate. He's also found steady work as an actor on stage. A Shakespeare fan, he earned raves playing the title role in Hamlet at the Public Theater in 1999; he generated equally positive praise with his 2003 performance in Henry V in Central Park. A turn as Richard Roma in the 2005 revival of David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross won him a Tony. That same year saw the release of Schreiber's first directorial effort, the widely disparaged movie version of Jonathan Safran Foer's Everything is Illuminated. He's since appeared on stage in the revival of Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio and on film in Love in the Time of Cholera, alongside Benjamin Bratt.

AKA

"Liev" is actually Schreiber's middle name; his first is Isaac. To complicate things even further, his hippie mom nicknamed him "Huggy Buggy Pinchy Winchy" as a kid.

In person

Schreiber's a tall drink of water at 6'3", and a thinking woman's sex symbol. He's also a chain smoker.

Personal

Previously involved with Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis, he's been engaged to actress Naomi Watts since December 2005. In June 2007, they told the press they'd secretly gotten married, and then retracted their statement the same day. In July 2007, the couple had a baby named Alexander. The family live in a Noho triplex with a Jack Russell terrier named Chicken. They've paid $6.5 million for a 3,300-square-foot full floor apartment in the forthcoming One Madison Park development; when the unit is finished, they'll be living alongside neighbors like Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins.

No joke

Schreiber claims he's had sex on the Staten Island Ferry.
