Who
An heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, Johnson first gained public attention with his 2003 documentary Born Rich.
Backstory
Johnson grew up in luxury on the Upper East Side, surrounded by both money (his great-grandfather, Robert Wood Johnson I, founded pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson in 1885) and wealth-induced idleness—both his father and grandfather sat on their fortunes and made few attempts to establish careers for themselves. In 2003, age 24 and fresh out of NYU, he put together Born Rich, a documentary in which he interviewed his extremely well-heeled friends about what it's like to be "insanely rich." Featuring interviews with Ivanka Trump, Georgina Bloomberg, Condé Nast heir Si Newhouse IV, Cody Franchetti, and Luke Weil, Born Rich, which aired on HBO, received two Emmy nominations. He followed up with a film called The One Percent, about the one percent of the world's population that controls 50 percent of its wealth, which landed him a coveted spot on Oprah in 2006.
Family ties
The Johnsons are a sprawling clan. Woody Johnson, the owner of the Jets, is a cousin of Jamie's—as are Woody's socialite daughter, Casey Johnson, and Woody's socialite sister, Libet Johnson.
Personal
Unlike most heirs who stick to the Upper East Side, the single Johnson's home base is in the East Village.
