Who
The daughter of Veronica Hearst, Fabiola is one of the city's most active young social butterflies.
Backstory
Maria Fabiola Beracasa was born in Caracas to Veronica de Gruyter and her first husband, Alfredo Beracasa, a Venezuelan insurance and banking tycoon. Her parents divorced when she was a kid; when her mom moved to New York to become the third—and final—wife of the late tycoon Randolph Hearst in 1987, Fabiola and her brother Carlos traded an estate in Caracas for a lavish apartment on Fifth Avenue. Fabiola spent her teen years at boarding school in Switzerland before returning to the States to attend Boston College. After graduating—and spending a summer interning for Karl Lagerfeld—she decamped to New York and took a job working in Christian Dior's special events department. She also became a major social presence and later joined Circa Jewelry, where she's now the company's creative director.
Of note
Thanks to her busy social schedule, Fabiola is one of the most talked-about young socialites on the scene these days, along with fellow limelight addict Tinsley Mortimer. It's a role that works out nicely for Fabiola and Circa: Much like the "jobs" that other pretty young social things have in the city, part of her job description for the antique and estate jewelry company is to walk the red carpet, smile for the camera, get her name in the paper, and generate heat. Unlike most of her pals, though, Fabiola wears her couture in sizes larger than zero, which makes her practically chubby by socialite standards.
Personal
Fabiola's longtime boyfriend is Jason Beckman, a money manager at Deutsche Bank. Until recently, she lived with her mother on the Upper East Side. She now lives in Chelsea.
True story
In November 2006, Fabiola's longhaired Chihuahua Alfonso was struck by a car at 64th and Lexington, as the butler was taking him to the vet. Beracasa immediately cancelled all her social engagements and spent a week recovering from the tragedy in Palm Beach.
