Who

Zinczenko is head of Men's Health and an expert on all things abdominal.

Backstory

Raised in Pennsylvania by a single mother who worked two jobs to support her kids—his father, Bohdan Zinczenko, died at the age of 52 from heart complications tied to obesity and smoking—Zinczenko enlisted in the Naval Reserve after high school to pay for college. He landed his first job in publishing at Jann Wenner's Men's Journal. In 1993, he jumped ship and moved to Men's Health as an associate editor. He moved up the ladder quickly, taking the reins of the magazine in 2000 at the age of 30.

Since then, he's increased readership, expanded the mag's presence with 38 international versions, launched a spinoff title (Best Life), and published a series of bestselling Abs Diet books. He's also turned himself into a morning show staple, regularly popping up on talk shows (he made a coveted appearance on Oprah in 2007) where he can be counted on to discuss things like workout regimens and his kissing technique.

Family ties

Dave's brother, Eric Zinczenko, works in magazines, too. He's publisher of Field & Stream.

For the record

Zinczenko reportedly turned down the editorship of GQ after Art Cooper retired. He was actually having lunch with Cooper when he had his fatal stroke at the Four Seasons.

Personal

Man-about-town Zinczenko has had no shortage of lithe, young playthings the last few years. He counts Charmed actress Rose McGowan and pop princess Mandy Moore among his conquests, and he's regularly seen slinking around town with best bud Dan Abrams of MSNBC. These days Zinczenko is seeing South African-born model Melissa Milne. He divides his time between an apartment in the West Village and a pad in Allentown.

True story

A freelance writer named Anna David hooked up with Zinczenko and recounted the experience in a 2003 Playboy article. (She referred to him as "Magazine Guy" in her piece.) Describing Zinczenko as "cheesy and too into himself," she described how "Magazine Guy" explained he was working on a story on cunnilingus and explained that "it's actually something far easier to show than it is to tell." She followed his lead, although she described the experience as "not earth-shattering."
