Who
Christian Slater is an actor best known (especially in recent years) for his off-screen antics, including an extensive dating CV and a rap sheet to match.
Backstory
Manhattan native Slater got his first TV role—on One Life to Live—courtesy of his casting director mom. He made his Broadway debut a few years later and earned a handful of small movie parts in the mid-'80s, but mainstream fame only arrived in 1989 when he starred as a murderous teen who blows up a high school in Heathers. Slater went on to star in cinematic '90s masterpieces like Young Guns II, Robin Hood, Very Bad Things, and Mobsters, for which he won a 1992 Razzie for worst supporting actor. Aside from a few gems like Pump Up the Volume and crime classic True Romance, Slater's career took a long, hard nosedive in the mid-'90s. Since then, he's primarily acted in B-movies and indies, while taking a few tiny, uncredited film roles (like "Easily Fooled Security Guard" in Austin Powers). More recently, he's starred in the Broadway revival of The Glass Menagerie in 2005, and in 2006's Bobby with noted thesp Lindsay Lohan.
Of note
When Slater first appeared on Hollywood's radar in Heathers, many were calling him the next Jack Nicholson. Unfortunately for Slater, he didn't have anything close to the talent—or career longevity—and in the face of his rapidly-sinking stardom, Slater predictably turned to substance abuse (see below). Lately, to pay the bills, he's been in a handful of commercials for brands like Panasonic. He'll get a chance to resuscitate his career with roles in several upcoming movies, including Gideon's Gift and Quantum Quest, with Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta.
Vice
Slater is a proud graduate of Malibu's Promises treatment center, a favorite of celebs like Matthew Perry, Charlie Sheen, Ben Affleck, Robert Downey Jr. and Andy Dick. Apparently, though, his most recent stint in Promises didn't take—in October 2005, Slater fell off a roof while drunk at Paris Hilton's home. No injuries were reported.
Legal file
Slater has a long history of legal trouble. In 1994, he was caught trying to bring a gun aboard an airplane and was sentenced to community service. In 1997, he got three months in jail after punching his then-girlfriend in the face at a party while drunk—when police arrived, Slater bit the officer on the stomach and tried to grab his gun. In May 2005, Slater was arrested on the Upper East Side after drunkenly grabbing a woman's ass, and charged with sexual abuse.
Personal
Slater—who dated Christy Turlington and Christina Applegate back in the day—married Ryan Haddon in 2000. Haddon was once arrested after throwing a glass at Slater's head at a Limp Bizkit concert in Las Vegas. Unsurprisingly, they separated in 2004, and finally divorced in 2006. They have two children, Jaden and Eliana. After a rumored fling with British model Jasmine Lennard, Slater is now with another Brit: Jimmy Choo president (and Joe Francis's ex) Tamara Mellon.
Habitat
Slater lives in a 1,100-square-foot apartment at 445 West 54th Street, for which he paid $882,500 in 2005.
